One of the worst meals of my life. Walked in and it was empty. Should have walked right back out but we thought we'd give it a try. Bong bong shrimp was fried shrimp that they left the shell on. No flavor. I got the captains platter blackened and the cod was disgusting and chewy. Overcooked. My boyfriend has the tempura Tuna steak and it was the least flavorless thig I've eve tasted in my whole life. Do not go there. I'm praying I don't have foo poisoning.

The only reason I am giving them 1 star is because of the atmosphere and view of the water. I ordered the captains platter. It was aweful. The fish was overcooked and the rice was too sweet. The waiter was not attentive at all. When he finally came to ask if he could take the plates I let him know that my dinner was not good at all. The food wAs not seasoned. Bland!!! He said" oh that's a first ". I will never come here again. Beware. Stick to the burgers.

We stopped by last week and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and service. A friend of ours said negative things about the place but we figured she is too picky so we went anyway. We walked in and were impressed by the cool Florida beach shack ambience and sipped on fresh watermelon margaritas while we waited for our food. We ordered the spaghetti and meatballs for my son, my friend had the ahi tuna sandwich, and I had the conch chowder. There were 5 huge handmade authentic Italian style meatballs, the pasta was perfect, and the sauce was delicious! The ahi tuna sandwich was seared to perfection and the french fries were amazing. My favorite was the conch chowder. I cannot describe how wonderful the spice blend tasted because I don't have enough good words for that. But I can say the conch and veggies were in perfect synchronicity. George the chef stopped by our table to see how everything was and we gushed about how happy we were. It was apparent that he puts a lot of love into the food and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We liked it so much we wanted to go back but ran out of time for our trip. The Salty Rim Grill is now on our must visit list for the next time. Many thanks to the staff for a fantastic meal!! xoxoxoxo

Hi, the food is always great...caesar salad rocks, delicious potato salad and the ropa vieja sandwich is the bomb. Two people could easily split this if they each ordered the potato salad or a cup/bowl of soup on the side. Server was scattered, but sweet and tried really hard. Just needs to maybe come up with a system to bring the silverware when you first sit down so that's taken care of. Other than that it is a great setting and the food never disappoints. Oh, their crabcakes rock, too!

The drinks and food were amazing! Blackened tuna was so delicious and the soft tacos were super yummy! Mojitos and margaritas were fantastic. Great happy hour from 11-7. Awesome atmosphere!

I bought a Groupon here...was sure that it would be like every other St. Pete beach bar, but I was happily surprised! My server was very nice, even suggested a few things to me, but I was there for one thing...oysters! I pruchased a Groupon for two dozen raw oysters and 2 beers. Great deal all in all! The oysters were amazing and I tried a local FL beer, which was great too. I was happy that the people were so friendly since I was alone this instance. The atmosphere was great and they had a one man "band" you could say there...he did a great job also. If you ever fins yourself drifting along that way in St. Petes I'd hit this place up again and again! See you on my next FL vacation Salty Rim Grill!!! -SK

Great spot, lots of fun and good food. Never having been, I decided to go by the Yelp reviews. There is a nice neighborhood feel to the place, my wife and I happened to stumble into trivial pursuit night :) Tons of seating both inside and out and bars both in and out. Lots of sports on lots of TV's which is fine for the feel of the place. My wife had the beer battered fish and chips, very fresh and tasty. She is allergic to shellfish, apparently so is one of the cooks, so they have a separate fryer set up for these allergy stricken folks. The fries were good, nothing special. The cole slaw was something very different though...it was basically tons of red onion, multi colored bell peppers, and cabbage I think. It was all tossed in a sweet vinegar sauce, not too heavy on the vinegar. I had the fish tacos, delicious! Same coleslaw on the side...3 huge grilled corn shells stacked with fish, cabbage, and a great cactus salsa. There was also a yellow, probably a cheddar blend, cheese melted to the bottom of the shells. Very, very filling and tasted great. I checked in on Yelp when we sat down, low and behold I got pop up for a free domestic beer for the first time visit, YAY! I had a Stella on draft. The waitress was very friendly, the prices were good, the crowd was entranced with trivial pursuit and having fun....nice stop!

I only came here once and have not been back. My friend and I rode our bikes here on a Tuesday afternoon, 5ish. They have no bike racks, or anywhere to lock up the bikes which was annoying, I mean it is the beach! We ended up tying them to the railings of the patio, but could not see them from where we sat so it was frustrating. I did not have a good experience here. We sat outside, it was pretty dead, maybe two other tables of people. Live music, or guy with a guitar. He played really good music, but he had a bad attitude. He mumbled stuff under his breath when people got up to leave and didn't tip him... very rude. Our server- she must have been 18-19-20? Very young, which is fine we've all been there. But we ordered draft beer that I could see on tap from our table. About fifteen minutes later the girl remembered she had taken an order from us, came back to tell me they didn't have it on draft, or they were out. Then I ordered something else, about twenty minutes later she tells me they were out of that as well. So I just got a bud light, which took a good ten minutes to get. As I said, I haven't been back. We didn't order food after our delay in drinks. The table next to us got food, it looked good. The location is really nice, on the water. Lots of parking.

Four of is went there for a late night dinner. All of us were very disappointed. The server did not write down our order so we never got our appetizer "she forgot". My shrimp tacos had the smallest shrimp, overcooked and chewy. The bean corn salad as a side tasted metallic. My husband's enchilada was also overcooked and tasteless. Our friend's salad was missing 2 listed ingredients and had no dressing. She had to ask 3 times for dressing, which she said was awful once she got it. Best thing about the dinner is we used a Yelp coupon to save $10.

Great restaurant! I went today with my husband and young son. We went around 5pm on a Monday, so there was plenty of seating on the deck and inside. We chose the deck, beautiful views of the water!! I had the BBQ Beach Burger, it was delicious...the island BBQ sauce is so good! It came with French fries which were full of spices, and I really liked them. My husband had the fresh blackened grouper sandwich. He liked it, but said it was a bit heavy on the spice. I also enjoyed a Mango cocktail, it was delicious, but the 8 dollar price tag was a bit high. My son slept thru dinner, however he woke up in time to realize there is a community playground literally in the side yard of the restaurant which he LOVED because it is big and has some shade so most of the equipment is not that hot. ENJOY, your trip there!

I was visiting St. Pete and my friend said that going to the Salty Rim was a must. I thought it would just be another Florida beach bar with so-so food. I was very pleasantly surprised! It's hidden in a shopping center, so I didn't realize it opened up onto a big deck overlooking the water. It was dumping and blowing rain when we went, so we sat inside at the bar. The decor is cute and authentic. The service was fantastic. The bartender was happy to move us inside and work both indoor and outdoor bars. The food was really, really good! We had the crab cakes and the Chop at the Pass salad. The crab cakes are some of the best I've had and we're all deep fried. If I could recreate the Chop at the Pass salad, I would! Overall, a really great experience. The chef/owner even came out and was super friendly.

Service was friendly and efficient. The mussel appetizer was good. The rest of the food was mediocre at best. Don't order the piña colada coconut shrimp app. It's overpriced for five heavily breaded shrimp. I wish this place had better food because the service was good and the location is cool.

Visited this restaurant last Friday, the 9th of May. I heard it was under new management and from my experience I could tell things have greatly improved (not like things were good to begin with) Wonderful service, great food. Impressed

After reading reviews and passing it by couple nights before decided to try it. Excellent! Very diverse menu. Started with queso, awesome! Wife had mussels app with tomato broth very good! I had Mole braised short ribs, simply outstanding ! House made mole was deep and rich paired with creamy polenta and topped with goat cheese. Short ribs were super tender! Just fantastic! Chef came out and asked if everything was okay, discussed his mole and how he creates it. Will definitely be back! There are a number of other dishes I would like to try!

Save your time and money and head over to Sea Hags right across the street. Went to the Salty Rim Grill for the first time yesterday and unfortunately it was a large mistake. If you like dirty & sticky tables, a really loud and obnoxious drinking atmosphere, poor quality food, and poor service then this is the place for you. Went in around 6 pm with two others and got a booth. Asked for a drink menu and the waitress said "Hold on let me try and find it.... ? She comes back 10 minutes later and says: Sorry there's only one drink menu and it's missing" -Off to a great start. So I decided against ordering an alcoholic beverage and got a diet coke instead.... which didn't taste like diet coke at all. It was definitely some cheap wholesale version. My wife and her sister wanted a margarita and a strawberry daiquiri, but couldn't because the waitress said they didn't have a blender?!? Got random mixed drinks instead that had little to no alcohol. I ordered the Lobster Macaroni and cheese -don't do it! I couldn't find a single piece of meat that resembled any part of a lobster AND I'm pretty sure they're using crab meat -I've eaten a LOT of lobster and I can tell when something is off... Also, on my third bite, I bit into a piece of a shell which not only hurt, but was also not recognizable. The Mac and Cheese was very runny and not what I expected at all -couldn't bring myself to continue eating it so the meal stopped there for me. My company did not enjoy their meals much either and we all agreed this was not a great restaurant. Will not be going here ever again. ----- Wife's edit: For a place that's called "The Salty Rim" the name kind of implies that you'll be able to get a Margarita, and since everyone knows you can order a margarita one of two ways (on the rocks, or blended), it's kind of ridiculous that they don't have a blender!

Nice bar with very friendly bartenders.. Got some apps and drinks at the inside bar.. There is also an outdoor bar.. Blackened tuna bites are amazing.. And the drinks come in mason jars.. Def come back to the place

Food and location good. Service left a lot to be desired. From being out of wine glasses when the place wasn't even busy to getting a moldy grape in our salad and when we told the waitress, she said "we just bought them". She also said that a meal couldn't be modified because it would be too confusing. I'll go back, but definitely won't be my first, second or even third choice to dine.

Worked out great for a family meal with our 4 kids. They had a typical kids menu and Cuban food as well so we decided to give it a try. We sat outside there was live music and we could see dolphins jumping on he water. I had the Cuban sandwich, my husband had the ropa vieja both well above average. The kids had burgers and chicken fingers- big portions. The restaurant is adjacent to a park so the kids could play as the sun set after dinner.

Decided to visit this place for the first time. Their menu looked great. We went tonight, on a Monday night. Don't go on Monday night--it's Trivia night. There were a lot of people there playing trivia and we were told right away that it was going to be a 20 minute wait. When looking around the restaurant we saw an open table and we were informed that was our seat but since the kitchen was backed up, we couldn't sit down yet. They sat us about 5 minutes later and took our drink orders. Since we had plenty of time to look at the menus before we sat down we knew what we wanted and once they brought all the drinks we ordered. One hour later, our food arrived. It was mediocre at best. My daughter had the shrimp basket, there were about 12 teenie little battered shrimp and a pound of fries. I ordered the Big Kahuna tuna sandwich, the tuna had no seasoning--it could have been so much better had it been seared with soy sauce or something. It was horrible. Fish tacos were OK. Battered Jamaican fish was all batter. Currently two of our family members are taking turns in the bathroom. It might be a good place to grab a beer. I definitely would not eat the food.

Here right now having a bad experience. They do not cater to gluten free diets. My mom tried to get the grouper sandwich without the bun and asked if she could get lettuce leaves instead and the waitress gave her attitude and said she needed to order the dinner on the back instead and just pay the up charge to get something in substitution for the rice. My mom went for something completely different because of the fee. The waitress never came back to the table to refill our drinks and a man came put and tried to give our appetizer to two other tables before a different waitress said it must be ours. My dad was now upset and asked to talk to the manager, he apologized and said he would comp her meal but the check came and he did not do it. The waitress must have refused to come back she served other tables while giving us dirty looks. I just wanted my parents to have a nice beach experience on their vacation but it didn't work out that way. The food was typical.

Ok Ive been back twice now and I have to say that the food is back up to standards!. They really do have good food and good drinks. A couple things that still bummed me out- they are using a menu that is not up to date. They are no longer offering a bunch of the items on the menu- time to update that guys! It's been long enough, either change your menu or put it back the way it was. It may be helpful to cross off the items your not offering as well! It's unfortunately very quiet in there these days. Both times there were only a few tables that were full. BUT our server was very sweet and our food was good. We'll keep coming back and hoping things keep improving!

My husband and I don't drink, but we went here because he got a voucher for a free drink for working in hospitality. We figured they'd let us sub it for a non-alcoholic, but they didn't. In any case, we ordered some shrimp and something else, I think a grouper sandwich, they were both very good. I wouldn't go back just because it's a bar and I don't care for drunk people but for bar food I was impressed.

I really wanted to give this place 4 stars, but just couldn't do it. Drinks are excellent, as are the grilled fish tacos. I came in during the lull between lunch and dinner, and the serving staff were very friendly. However, when the evening staff came in, they did not approach me at all, and I had to flag someone down so they could take my order. The server never came back to ask how my food was, and after 20 minutes I finally got her attention and was able to get some silverware and a napkin. I called ahead to make sure they had wifi (I planned on doing some studying) but found that it only worked if I sat inside. All in all, a good place, just need to tweak a few things.

Stopped in after reading good referrals on Yelp and was pleasantly surprised, I had the grilled fish tacos and my date had the gulf breeze burger, both dishes were great. I ordered a side of green beans with my tacos that we're exceptional, loaded with butter and garlic what doesn't taste good when you add those! My dates burger topped with Havarti cheese and grilled onions was juicy yet had crisp edges, she loved it! Brittany our bartender/server was the best, very attentive, great service.

Edit: lowered from 2 to 1 star. Two years after my first review, this place just can't seem to get it right. Thought I'd give it another try. So I ordered their watermelon mojito from their drink menu. "Sorry, we don't have any watermelon." Okay, so we try a different drink on their menu, one made with a splash of ice crea,. "Sorry, we're out of ice cream too." Yes, they were out of that rare, mysterious substance known as vanilla ice cream. The sea plane bringing its precious bean-laden cargo in from the rain forest of Borneo must have gone down over the weekend, because that's the only reason I could think of to explain why the manager didn't ask someone on the staff to buy some from (pick one: gas station? Convenience store? The Sweet Bay grocery store 1/4 mile away?" Next came the cold queso dip. Remembering my past experiences, I decided upon something "safe." So I was ill prepared for the cheese-flavored toothpaste that our server delivered. But I was ill, later. So I guess that balanced out. The coup de grâce of this tragedy was the appearance of a four-top with a large, smelly poodle in tow. The dog, which seemed perfectly sweet, proceeded to introduce itself to me by rubbing its tail, body, face and tongue against me while I attempted to admire the sunset (through a closed plastic awning window, which was just super). And while I was flattered by the attention, I was flabbergasted that the restaurant let these folks bring their dog in the dining area. In short, that's a wrap for me and this place. I can only speak to my experiences. But they were consistent. Lousy food. Lazy service. Non existent menu items. And a distinct air of, "whatever...we're a tourist trap." ORIGINAL REVIEW: I really, really wanted to love this place. The tuna bites were so overlooked, we thought we were eating from a can. The fried oysters in the Oyster Bar Junk were grisly and past their prime. The conch fritters were rubbery and the oyster rockin fellar was bland. Their specialty cocktails are amazing, the people are great and the view is wonderful. I hope they can get a handle on their kitchen because it's the only missing ingredient in an otherwise impressive experience.

Came here for some drinks and appetizers before hitting the streets for the night. The food was pretty good, and the staff was very friendly. If it were a little nicer outside, we could have enjoyed the beautiful view on the water, but sadly the wind was kicking up. The appetizers were all good, but a little small on the portions and nothing too mind blowing really stood out, but definitly a fun place to grab a drink.

I moved into the condos across the street from this place and was very excited that there was a tapas place nearby. Unfortunately the new owners decided to close the tapas place (was Ocean Breeze) and open yet another typical beach restaurant, albeit with a slight Tex-Mex influence. The service isn't great, and the food is pretty average. I usually get the Seafood Margarita, which is similar to a ceviche. it's a bit heavy on the tomatoes and light on the crab, but that's to be expected for the price. Personally, I'd rather pay a few more bucks and get more crab, but the flavor is very good. As with most places on the beach, you can't go wrong with Bong Bong shrimp. I also liked the shrimp quesadilla, and the burger with sweet potato fries was pretty good in spite of the fact that they forgot the mayo i requested and took 20 minutes to bring it. I do have to give big kudos for the poblano queso. Being from Texas, I consider myself a bit of a connoisseur when it comes to chile con queso, and this is the best I've had since I moved to Florida. If I didn't care what I looked like in a bathing suit, I just might eat this every day. Like Sean T. said, I really, really wanted to love this place, but sadly, it's just OK. Even though it's only average (except for the queso), I go back fairly regularly just because it's across the street. UPDATE: Since my original review, they have changed management and, sadly, changed the recipe for the queso. It is just not good anymore. The texture is grainy and there is an herb in it that I can't quite place except to know that it just doesn't taste right. I don't ever GO there anymore, but I occasionally order takeout for the simple reasons that they are close, and they deliver. I would certainly never take anyone else there.

The restaurants located in the back corner of the building down a hallway. There's some tables and booths a long communal table and a bar. There is outside seating and another bar. I don't know how its at lunch but on a Friday night its loud and rowdy and they had a DJ playing so with all the noise it was hard to hear anyone talking. Being lent and Friday they had fish special one being all you can eat pollack. You stated out with two big pieces of fish with lot of fries and a small cup of slaw. The fish was good but it had way to much breading which was a beer batter kind. A reorder would bring you two more pieces but that was way to much. The fish was priced at $11.99. I had to try the taco's. They had many choices but never had fried oyster tacos so that I had to try. You got 3 flour tortilla not my favorite I like corn better. They were served with peas and rice. The tacos had about 3 to 4 small pieces of oyster, cheese, tomatoes tiny amount of jalapeño pepper and cabbage and a side of sour cream. The taco were good, I did not care for the rice mixture. 3 tacos for $11.00. They also serve some specialty drinks too. Ask the prices of drinks. Draft of Dos Equis $4.00 and it wasn't even cold. Bottle of Dos Equis $3.50 and it was cold. Now to the good drinks first I had the watermelon basil mojito crush it was good but not great the price $6.00. Now the second drink I liked better Blueberry lemon crush it was a little tart the price $8.00. A little to much ice. Over all the place was good. The service was OK. Would try again.

We sat outside and listened to live music. Food was good, but we waited forevvvvvvvver for everything and they weren't that busy. It may have been just an off night, however it was enough to make it a 1 out of 5 stars for us :/ I was disappointed.

We tried this place after having a negative experience at a local Mexican Bar/Restaurant nearby (VIP in TI), who has gotten very busy and forgotten about customer service. Salty Rim was a good experience....weird that it was so quiet on a Sunday night, we had the chimi churri steak and the shrimp and grits..the first was awesome, the shrimp and grits was awful and dry. drinks and service were terrific. We will be back and try again.

The only reason this place is getting two stars is because it's on the water, albeit intracoastal, has an outdoor bar and has live music at times. Only thing that got us in the door to begin with was a $20 for $13 groupon, but in hindsight, I'd prefer to have spent the extra $7 elsewhere. My wife, toddler and I visited on a Saturday evening about 8:30p, in August. It's been very rainy lately, so typically you're used to walking out of Florida's humidity into a wall of cool air when entering a dining establishment. For whatever reason, it was actually warmer inside Salty Rim, and had a slightly foul odor that smelled like a cross between cleaning products and fish. We would have sat outside, but it had been raining on and off and they only had four total tables that were completely under cover; two were filled, the other two were empty but right next to the speakers from the one-man band. Someone who I later determined was a bar back or bus boy, greeted us and asked how many were in our party. He turned and walked away, leading me to believe we were supposed to follow him and he just had no communication skills. Turns out he was just asking us that for no particular reason because the actual host came up as we were starting to walk. He seated us and a server arrived shortly thereafter. Salty Rim is about two miles south of VIP Mexican Restaurant which is well known for having great strong $5 margaritas. The server advised us of a two for one margarita deal, I inquired if they were strong since I like that, she said she could make them strong so we ordered those and the "Seafood Margarita" app, which is $11 and described as crab, shrimp, fish and fresh salsa. Our drinks arrive, they are definitely not anywhere near what I'd describe as strong. The app arrives next. "Salsa" is mostly huge chunks of tomatoes with some onions mixed in. Then what would probably be a small ice cream scoop dollop of crab meat is on top with perhaps three small shrimps and a few pieces of generic white fish. The chips are those three color type, were not warm and were not entirely crunchy, leading me to believe they were most likely not "home made" as the menu describes. The crab tasted fine, but all but the massive pile of tomatoes was gone in about four bites, so you're not getting a lot for $11 unless you enjoy eating a pile of tomato. For entrees, we ordered shrimp & grits and ropa vieja. I realize we're not in Charleston, SC, or the formal "South" for that matter, but these were the worst shrimp & grits ever prepared. The grits were clumps of tasteless mush with a horrible consistency. Not sure how they got it to melt, I'd like to believe not a microwave, but there was cheese of varying thickness somewhat melted over them; it tasted like Velveeta slices. There was some shrimp scattered about and then bacon that was too thick for the way it was (under) cooked, so it was mostly just leathery and required a lot of chewing to make it through. About half of this meal was left on the table rather than put in a to go box; it was simply horrible. The fact that it was $17 is just ridiculous. The ropa vieja was not as bad, but not something I'd ever order again. Being in Tampa Bay, there are a lot of great Cuban restaurants around, where you can get GOOD ropa vieja, and this is not in that category. The cut of meat was not the problem, it was simply not very seasoned at all, so there was not much taste. It came with a side of beans, which I had high hopes for as I could see pieces of sausage and onions mixed in, so I was expecting a lot of great flavor; nope, dead and lifeless. With the 'strong' margaritas tasting mostly like mix, I switched to my go to drink, Bacardi and Diet Coke. Not sure what they served me, but it wasn't that, and it was weak. I had had about enough at this point, having suffered through the meal, in the heat, and had a mosquito bite (we saw several over the course of the dinner) as a bonus, so I didn't complain, we just paid and left. I'd like to say I'll try some of their other items next time, but not sure if there will be a next time given the far better options in the surrounding area.

We came to the Salty Rim because there was a good Groupn. The Salty Rim is located on the inter coastal which is ok.. They have outdoor seating where dogs are welcome which is a bonus for us (as you know we love to bring Aspen). I am not sure if tonight was an off night for them, but the service was mediocre.. Let me explain. Our server was wonderful, but we sat at our table for at least fifteen minutes before she even had time to come take our drink orders. Then it took almost ten to get the drinks. We are not complicated drinkers. 1 water, 1 absolute and tonic, and one beer. Finally she had the opportunity to take our order. KM got the pasta with grilled chicken, DMD ordered a seafood dish, and I ordered a Greek salad. Ok if you read my reviews at all you know I am not a foodie. I am a very picky eater, so when a Greek salad is on the menu and the description states it comes with clamato olives, beets, and cucumbers that's what I expect on the salad. The food took some time, but that's ok, it was the salad that was so disappointing. Oh it had olives but they were black, and no cucumbers or beets. KL liked her pasta though, however DMD's exact words " we are never coming here again!". There was entertainment on the deck. They were excellent. It was a 2 man band. One sang and played guitar the other played the drums. I would go listen to them again just not at the salty rim. Let me just add one more thing. Our waitress was good, she was just slammed. Maybe the manager should have stepped in and helped her out, or staffed a Friday night better.m

We had Ncrowd coupon (half off depot). So we drove quite a way to have a day out of town. We loved our meals. Wife had chicken tacos. I had fish and chips. Both were great. Sort of hot out in the sun but it is August. Music from two guys was good. Server was right on top of things. We will be back.

Stopped in for a second time this past Saturday while my brother was in town. Although they do have some nice drink specials (free check in draft beer and bogo margaritas) the atmosphere is a little dull for my taste. The bartenders are nice but very rarely are behind the outside bar. This makes it difficult at times to order. As far as food, I have only had the fish spread and it wasnt bad. For a Saturday during my last visit it was very empty. Overall, I think it could use more atmosphere. It is very quiet and slow and only makes me want to walk across the street to the other establishment. The previous Saturday (although slower again) there was a one man band playing. This place really needs things like this especially on the weekends.

I wasn't sure what to expect when walking in here, but what draw us here was the free beer for checking in with yelp. I must admit that I was surprised to see how big the burger was that I ordered was huge and it was very good, I got the bbg burger and it came w/bacon, cheese, and onion strings and I didn't realize that it was a 1/4 lb burger. I got a yuenling and it was nice and cold, which after the gecko fest, I needed something nice and cold. The have 10 TV's on the inside and four or five on the outside (didn't sit out there, way too hot). The service was not the best, but the food did make up for it.

Had a blast at Salty Rim. Best Hurricane ever. Beautiful sunset view. Yummy burger and sweet potato fries. Yummy BBQ pork sliders. Loved the live music. Great evening.

Good music and vibes in the outdoor sitting area Service was good. Food was very good. We got tuna fajitas, fish & chips, blackened fish po' boy (huge!), and petes famous ahi tuna and we enjoyed it all.

First visit for my my wife and me, expecting a lot, but received much less. In part chose restaurant because of a promotion that gave a free dessert. Bad start as wife ordered a chicken sandwich and they brought a chicken entree. Waitress was so cute and sweet that we didn't think twice about it. Eventual sandwich was average at best, but fries were hot and delicious! My dish of scallops, shrimp, whitefish, crab and fried oysters was very tasty, and bread dipped in the cream sauce was excellent. Bad news on the recommended (by our waitress) mango pie. It took a long time to arrive and had an obvious circle of green mold on one side of the pre-sliced pie. I pointed it out to our waitress, manager came out to see it. He didn't really apologize, but took it away. Waitress came and said they were slicing a new pie. Much later, waitress said that they were out of the mango pie. No immediate substitute was offered. No apology for the problem, nothing adjusted on the check. Recommended tips on the check were miscalculated (high). Really wanted to like this place, but....

We waited so long for everything from getting a waiter to getting our food. It was def not worth waiting. The food wasn't that good. I would not recommend this place.

To be avoided! Indifferent service, indifferent food, typical beach casual where the drinks are more important and the food, etc., is simply an afterthought. My french fries were beyond awful, and I'm not that critical of fries, but ya know, it's really not that hard to get french fries right, is it? I had the Big Kahuna Tuna and thought I'd gotten a bean sprout burger instead. My wife's Mojo pork something-or-other sandwich with chimichurra sauce was close to flavorless, although her sweet potato fries were pretty good. Once is more than enough!

Nice atmosphere, good service, but the food was rough. I got the pork shank special and it was stone cold on the inside. THey asked me if I wanted a new one or just heat up this one. I switched out for the burger, and it wasn't berry good.

I went here for the first time to eat food(I've been here before to have $1 bud selects) because got a deal here on Yelp. The food that came out tasted old and awful my wifes taco's were un edible and the rice was rancid(I hope no one gets sick) my pork sandwich tasted old as well. Then they gave us the bill and charged us for everything and gave an attitude when I told him the bill was wrong. Very bad dining experince.

Totally solid conch chowder, amazing chop salad (suitable for veggies who know salad is more than just lettuce), great drinks and music. Was a little leery of the mixed reviews, but took a chance on a yelp deal. We'll be back...

My husband and I LOVE this place! Fantastic, creative decor, great ambiance with frequent live music, huge outdoor deck with heaters, a bit of beach on the waterfront, and docks for boaters to tie into. Menu filled with scrumptious items inspired by Mexico, Texas, Lousiana, to the Florida keys. Plus a great bar with tasty cocktails. We ate several things, finding all delicious, and can't wait to go back!!! I can tell this restaurant will be great for parties.

Total FAIL. Weak drinks, lame food and terrible service... Can't comment on the appetizers we ordered they never came. Meals were delivered in staggered waves and did not include menu ingredients. Meals are "school lunchroom" quality. Don't get me started on the service... Keep driving. Many good options nearby.

Real cool place to eat drink and be merry. Service by CiCi- great, Nice Selection of beer on tap, great atmosphere at the waterfront bar, good live entertainment and the seafood margarita- OMG- soooo good! The menu is so descriptive, I wanted it ALL! Oreo Beignets- wow! The only thing I would add to the menu is steamed mussels!!!

We started off sitting at the bar, because there was a wait for sitting outside. We ordered the crab cakes while we were waiting, and they were terrible. We almost left but decided to stay since a table finally opened up. The outside was awesome and they had great live music. We had the fried fish tacos and chicken quesadillas. They were both really good, especially the fish tacos, I would go back for them alone. I would definitely recommend The Salty Rim Grill, just stay away from the crab cakes. Have to edit a bit. Went back a second time and the Fish Tacos were not nearly as good. They may have consistency problems!

Don't miss this great spot! Server was funny and very friendly. Menu options were fantastic, as well as their own unique bar drink menu. There was an awesome band playing-Soul Surfer Cowboys. We had a fantastic evening. And a local came over and offered to take our photo-everyone was very friendly. Loved it and hope to return!

Visited the Salty Rim for the first time last night. This spot finally has a great restaurant. The drink menu is creative - the "crushes" hit the spot. The food was delisious. The blackend tuna bites were cooked to perfection (still pink in the middle). The seaoning was spicy but didn't over power the tuna. Our favorite of the evening was the drunken oyster bar - the seafood was well cooked, the sauce is out of this world and dipping the grilled bread - yum yum. We also really liked the ribs. The sauce was light with a good kick. Even the fries and slaw were fresh and well prepared. We will visit again soon!

Service was excellent, by Rob. All else was awful. I never could have imagined that a restaurant on the beach that offered so many seafood options could be out of almost everything on a Saturday. First we were told they were out of oyster of all kinds. After placing four dinner orders which three of them had some type of shrimp in then, our server had come from the kitchen and inform us they were also out of shrimp. That floored me. Needless to sat we settled on the one dinner so my son could at least eat. Nothing like taco bell drive through on the way home. If it wasn't for Rob the management would have heard from me in person. Ron is a bartender who was thrown into serving because they were short on servers and the poor guy had to tell us that they were out of everything that we wanted even straws. A manager never came by the table to see how everything was. Oh yeah, they were out of plastic cups too. Just who does the ordering? It wasn't even packed there were plenty of open table when we arrived and tons of open tables when we left. The Sea Hag across the street had a packed parking lot. This was my first visit and my last one. I can't see the place staying open much longer when their out of so much on a Saturday. Who delivers on a Sunday? If I could give stars for Rob he'd get 5 Gold Stars and everything else would be a BIG FAT 0. Wonder if the owners and/or the management reads this? Big disappointment.

Would probably rate this a 3 1/2 but rounded up due to good happy hour deal. Salty Rim Grill is located on Blind pass rd in St Pete, on the inter coastal. Nice outdoor seating with a water view when the summer is long gone. We were hot and tired from attending the Gecko fest and after a few other misses, found this place for some much needed hydration and grub. And pub grub is what we found. Ambiance is Jimmy Buffet/Caribbean key westish. . They had $2 domestic beer deal and 1 free with yelp check in. Yuengling fit the bill nicely. They also have live music but that starts later in the evening. I ordered the avocado frita, something I've never seen on a menu. Fresh Avocado crusted in an almond shell and drizzled with mango Scotch bonnet jam and a side of chipotle lime aioli. I asked the server is the scotch bonnet jam was hot and she had no clue nor bothered to offer to find out. So I got it on the side, it was cloyingly sweet. The avocado was a bit on the bland side but with a few shakes of the salt shaker, it wasn't too bad. Salad came with dressing on after asked server for it on the side. Didn't bother sending it back. Hubster loved his bbq burger. I would come back for drinks and live music, bar is open to 3am on Fri and Sat for your insomniacs. Happy hour is mon-fri 4p-7

I want to give this place 4 stars and it should definitely half 3.5 but that doesn't happen . On our way from Mad Beach to Pass a grille drove by here and after seeing their menu on line decided to eat here in stead of Monkey Balls as I was sure, at the very least, it had to be cleaner. They had just opened on a Sunday lunchtime so we opted for a large comfy booth by the window with Joel as our waiter. PEM had the Victory Summer of Love($5.00) and I had a Salty Dog with tequila ($8.00) We started with the queso pobalano with tri color chips. It was good ($7.90) hot and spicy and the chips were thing and crispy Another drink or so we opted to split a Ropa Vieja sandwich, served on pressed Cuban bread with swiss and side of fries ($8.90) It was quite good BUT came out barely warm ( I don't think they heated the meat before pressing it) so within a couple bites it turned cold. Although the meat was nicely flavored the temp was a turn off. As was the temp of the restaurant. It was hot! Granted it's mid August in Florida but I expect indoors to be cool. especially since there was no one else there. It really made it so uncomfortable we opted to leave. I will go back, when in the area, when it's cooler so I can sit out on the water. They do have some interesting menu items, and their drink selection is quite varied. just don't expect anything stellar

OK..Up front...Really enjoyed our meal. My Tuna sandwich was great. Barely seared tuna, cut into chunks, and served on a nice toasted bread with wasabi sauce, lettuce, and sprouts. Like eating sushi in a sandwich. And, a nice order of crispy season fries. My wife had the Conch Chowder and Caesar salad. (I had to taste both.) The chowder reminded us of a great Conch chowder we once had on Bermuda. The Caesar salad had what tasted like a homemade dressing - lots of anchovy flavor, and an added treat of cheezy croutons. The restaurant was slow at lunch with one waitress. She was efficient and pleasant. No problem picking our own seat, and we were served quickly. It's a keeper!!!!!!

Honestly worst experience, we had to wait 30min to even put our order in, and the place was pretty empty, cause the waitress forgot about us, then we ordered took awhile to get our food and it was bad. The black and blue burger which was ordered medium was give to us extra well done, then we order a side of mashed potatoes which was a baked potato which was squished onto a plate the whole thing was still completely connected, skin still on and fit back together into a whole potato and don't get me started on the chicken sandwich. But the fries were delicious cause that's the only thing my sister and I actually got to eat that wasn't horrible, plus no a/c your better off sitting outside, cause it seemed like the waitresses will actually interact with you then

The food, atmosphere, and wait staff were great. It took awhile to get our food, but the bbq burger and the grilled mango chicken salad were worth the wait.

There are only two reasons I gave this 4 stars, and they are the only two reasons I'll continue to visit this place. They have GREAT queso! It's a generous portion served with chips (yeah, they are the green, red and black version, but I let that slide). So, if you're in the mood for a beer and some queso and don't feel like dressing up, but still want to have a nice view of the water, this is your place. Yes, it's a bit divey, but I'm a divey kinda girl. Now here's the main reason I'm a fan. The bartender, Joel, suggested the Jalapeno margarita. I was going to get a regular one, but he insisted I try the Jalapeno one. If I didn't like it, he'd make me a regular. Well, holy hell, it was delicious! They serve it in a salted mason jar mug, with fresh jalapeno slices. It truly was unique and a nice compliment to my queso. Cheers!

Awesome place! Totally chill relaxed vibe, very cool waiters and perfect location! You even get to watch the hot boys wash down their boat while you wait for your fried avocado appetizer and enjoy your free domestic beer with a complimentary coozie. We will be coming back!

I would give this place a 4.5, but since you can't do half points I'll round it up to a 5. Went here on a Saturday night with 5 adults and 1 baby. Salty Rim is on the intercostal waterway and we sat on the deck overlooking the water. It's a pretty nice space and we even were able to see some Dolphins jumping. They ask had a guy playing guitar and singing, and while it made it a little loud he had a good voice so it could've been worse Drinks: Saturday has BOGO margaritas, so everyone decided to partake in that. Everyone agreed that the margaritas were awesome and didn't have that premade mix taste like a lot of places. Also was a good size margarita. Food: everyone really enjoyed their meals! The tuna poke was good as was the fish and chips - probably one of the best (freshest) fish and chips I've had and a HUGE portion with fries and blueberry coleslaw - I had to share my fish with my dad and sister because I was so stuffed. My mom also had the lemon chicken which was very good! My chief complaint about Salty Rim is the smoking on the back deck. I understand it's outside, but being as none of us are smokers and I personally bothered by the smell, it was a bit annoying halfway through the meal to have a table of smokers start lighting up and smoking right by us.

OK, here's the thing.... I love this place , but this time we were so cold in the inside area (with my 11 year old son) that we decided to take our food to go! C'mon people, adjust the climate for the customers, not the staff! Still my favorite burger on the beach.....where is the manager when he/she needed? Go here for a good kitchen, ask the management to make the experience good. It is worth it.

STOP HERE!!! Really best food I've had in Florida. The menu is average sized, but is loaded with good stuff. I looked over the online menu and its a little outdated. So if you see a good menu item reviewed, don't plan on it being there. That said, Islamorada Pork is to die for. Pork shank that falls apart onto pineapple mashed sweet potatoes, and then add bbq sauce and French fried onion rings. You will eat yourself sick. This is really tender, and extremely well seasoned. It comes with veggies as a side but I didn't get there. But I started with Poblano Queso with tortilla chips. Like it sounds Queso, Cheddar, and Poblano peppers living in slightly spicy harmony with red, green, purple, and plain chips. Remember eating a colorful diet is good for you, better with two cheeses. But wait there's more! Key Largo Chicken, is for those opposed to the wonderful animal called the pig. OK, seriously take a boring chicken breast put it over French fried onions and dump something called pear Marsala crème sauce over it. Then add pears! This was worth the trip alone. Happy hour is 11-7pm, and there's a decent drink and beer menu, too. The outside deck overlooks the intercoastal waterway, so it has a nice view.

Not a bad place, right on the water with patio and indoor dining. Service was pleasant and attentive. I ordered the Tequila Lime fish tacos, my mom got steak tacos, both good. Fish could've used some more seasoning but I would definitely order again. Brought kids with us and they loved the food as well. Family friendly surroundings. Definitely coming back.

My boyfriend and I had been meaning to try this place for a while and we gave it a try on a Thursday night (or so we tried) we parked in the plaza and guessed our way to the salty rim, upon getting there we heard people on the outside deck but read a sign that instructed us to go inside to be seated... We did as told There was a man at the bar (inside bar there is one outside too) and no bartender we stood by the hostess stand for a good 10 minutes and no one showed up to great up or seat us... We gave up and went elsewhere... I really wanted to try (and like) this place the pictures of food look yummy

We use to come here years ago when it was mulligans. By chance, we found it again and it was much improved. We sat outside and enjoyed the view. We even saw dolphins! Emily was very attentive outside and served us the best conch fritters. She gave us other menu suggestions and was pleasant to talk to. We will definitely be back!

My original thought was to give this 4 stars, but on reflection and the subsequent stomach ache, it really doesn't deserve it. Came here for happy hour and dinner with my girlfriend. It is a pretty place for happy hour - located on a river or inlet or something like that. The outdoor patio is a nice relaxing place to spend an hour or two - the kind of patio that every place in Florida near the water should have. Unfortunately, as good as the happy hour drink prices are (wells for $3), the drinks reflect the cheap price. It was all mixer, no liquor. Even if I could forgive that - it is happy hour after all, and a responsible bartender isn't going to give strong pours when someone is only paying $3 - once happy hour was over and drinks were full price, they were still all juice or soda. Just not acceptable. Food was good. Food quality was worth 4 stars. Got the jerk wings with the island BBQ sauce and the Ropa Viejo sandwich. The jerk seasoning was very good, but could have been a bit spicier. The BBQ sauce was sweet, and may have taken away a bit of the jerk seasoning kick. That's fine - I liked the BBQ sauce - but I do wish it didn't cover the taste of the jerk seasoning so much. The sandwich was good, too, as were the fries it came with. However, both my girlfriend and I had a lot of trouble sleeping that night with serious indigestion. So as good as the food was, it didn't sit well with either of us, so I can't give it the best of ratings. All in all, I had higher hopes after sitting down outside. Still, I want to like it - they have a really good drink menu (though they're obviously very weak if my experience is any judge), and the food is tasty. Nevertheless, I am not sure I can give it another chance after the battle I had with my stomach all night. Shame.

The only reason I am even giving two stars is because the bartender was friendly and knowledgeable. He made us comfortable after a rocky start. When we arrived we considered sitting at the outside bar, but it was dirty. We like to sit at the bar so we can talk so we moved to the inside bar which was also filthy. I had to warn my wife not to place her purse on the bar as there was some unknown foodstuffs spread around. After it was cleaned we ordered food and drink without issue. The food was OK but nothing to rave about. One of the waitresses kept coming behind the bar and making reference to the 'old people' at one of the tables in pretty unflattering ways. Hell, they were only a few years older than me. Complete lack of respect for the customers. Was the final out of the visit, will not go back.

I came here due to a living social deal and it was close to expire so the bf and I decided to come on a Thursday night as neither one of us (mainly me) were not in the mood to cook. Literally, everything we ate tasted soooooo good. I love tons of flavor and this place had it. Appetizer were the conch fritters (sweet sauce amazing) and dinner was the ropa vieja sandwich and for the bf the rim burger. Fries were tasty, both were tasty and I had to try the tostones on the side even though it was way too much food. Mmmmmmmmmmm! Fried oreos for dessert were amazing. We love this place and will come back.

I was hoping I had found a place to visit when my fave Tex/Mex place up the street had a 45 minute wait.. Approach/Building - when you have a large parking lot infront of you and most of the other 9-5 businesses are closed it really should n't be too difficult to find a convenient parking space and it wasn't. The approach to the restaurant was beachy/funky and I guess it set the mood for the interior. It feels like it's trying a little too much on the inside. As much as I'm not a huge fan of chain restaurants some of them have the aesthetics down to a science and I would suggest SR hire someone to bring that quality feel up a notch or two. Staff/Service - I like sitting a t a bar at times, it sometimes means a friendly bartender and faster service. Sure enough my bartender was friendly and seemed efficient. If I have a suggestion here it's have some way of paging/alerting the bartender as to when an entree is ready so it doesn't sit under a heat lamp for too long. Menu/Value - I'm trying to give constructive comments here so perhaps someone does not have the same experience I had. My first thought is to increase the temperature or perhaps change the oil before deep frying those good looking tricolor nachos. The other might be difficult as I'm sure rent is through the roof and bills have to be paid. I would have like to have seen a local fresh caught fish offering under $20, I prob ably would have ordered it even though as I said my first thoughts were to go Tex/Mex.

Went here for a drink after dinner. Bartender has the sack to say we didn't pay with a 50 rather a 20. Really?! Then twice says it's coming out of his pocket. Yes sir. Yes it is. Then mid drink he says we are making him uncomfortable and wants us to leave. Boo f'ing hoo. Grow up. My recommendation is never spend a dime here. We left that a-hole a quarter for a tip. Only cuz we didn't have a nickel.

Great place. ....the food was wonderful. ....we stayed in walking distance of Salty Rim so, we ended up here a total of 3 times......we had the same waitress 2 times & our waitress last night was very nice too........the couch chowder is very good....seafood junk (not sure if I got right name) but our waitress recommend it very good! Fish tacos very good. We did our New Year Eve dinner here......they had couples dinner that was great......appetizer, surf & turf, salad, dessert & glass of wine each for $70.....the thing we loved the most is that they are dog friendly

So this was a drive by turn around and eat thing for us. As soon as we sat down it was so peaceful. There was an artist singing and playing guitar, there was a nice breeze, and the atmosphere was just on key. So we started with the corona quesadillas and they were marvelous the flavor was so on point that it could of been my meal. My husband got the captains platter blacked and he raved and raved how fresh the seafood was and he loved the rice. I had some ropa de ambuela (?) I can't remember the name but it was good. They had tostones which is one of my favorite items and I was happy with them, but the meet which was a shredded beef and it was good a bit greasy but it needed some tortillas or a starch to really enhance the flavor. But we had a great time and really enjoyed our first visit. We will definitely be coming back before we leave!

We walk in at 6pm & only one other table is here for dinner; another half dozen folks sitting at the bar. Despite this red-flag, we decided to give it a shot & sat down at an indoor booth (outdoor tables were also a ghosttown). I ordered conch fritters for an appetizer. They were either left in the deep-frier too long or had gravel in the batter. Fish tacos were very good; nothing else was above average. Quesadilla was very greasy & sloppy. They tasted OK but were a mess to look at and eat. Grouper sandwich was bland & overpriced for a small piece of fish on a hamburger bun. Waitresses were friendly & service was good. Although not likely, if I were to return, I would go later for drinks and skip the dinner (maybe try "pub grub" & apps) as it appears more of a dive-bar than a family restaurant.

The salty rim was really busy when we arrived at 9p on a Fri. We were told it would be a few minutes till we got a table and within 5 we had multiple servers wanting to seat us. We actually got a great table outside on the water within a few minutes of walking in. We had the crab cakes and jerk chicken wings for apps and they were both great!! Jerk chicken especially. Drinks were strong and delish! Our server Charity, was super attentive and had a great sense of humor. Waiting on out meals now, so I'll update soon. *update* I had the chicken and waffles and it was the best!! The buffalo chicken sandwich is spicy and huge! Margaritas and mojitos top notch. Save room for the fried oreos! They were so good.

Went to this place four times. First time was not long after the place opened up and it was great. Friendly waiter, decent food, attentive staff. Second time the food was still pretty good, but the server was evidently having a bad day. Third time, the waiter was again nice, but the food was lacking. Fourth time, not sure what happened. Waited and waited after being seated by hostess and no server ever showed up. Left and have never returned. One thing I don't like is inconsistency. When I want to take guests some place, I like to know what I'm in for.

A fun place to bring out of towners when they visit. The seafood ceviche margarita is delicious! The live music can be a little much volume wise at times, making it harder to hear your dinner companions if you're wanting to get into a deep convo but it's fun for a casual night out.

  • Tony H.

Not bad, but not that great either. I had the seafood platter which was fairly good. They were out of grouper which was the fish that was supposed to come with the meal, but instead I got some other white fish which wasnt bad. The scalopes numbered about 3 and they were about the size of my thumb nail. For Florida I would have at least expected the larger ones, even if it was three, or a lot more of the smaller ones so I was a little disappointed. I also stuck with their "special" fries, which just plain out where not that great. Very bland. I was sad I didnt get the sweet potato fries because those were really good. I stuck with the regular ones because they were their "special" or something like that. Shame.

Did not have a good experience. The waitress was nice and did her best. However, the food was a nightmare. There were six of us so here is the rundown: grouper dinner and tuna dinner were both ridiculously small- 4 0z? , skirt steak was fatty and tough, chicken pasta was tasteless and greasy. Both children's dinners came out a full 10 minutes after the adults, chicken fingers were burnt black, no fries , and when they were sent back their replacement was black also. I used to work at restaurants so I know that anyplace can have a bad night - this was a bad night- something was wrong in that kitchen tonight/ way too many poor dishes came out- I saw other tables sending food out - if the management is reading this FIX YOUR KITCHEN GUYS!

Ok, not the best place I've been to in a while. The hamburger was good and the fries were hot and fresh. That is the good news. The chair broke while I was sitting in it-the staff never checked on me, The drink sucked, gin n tonic minus the gin! Yet full price The sun was in my eyes and I had to go to car and get sunglasses, The staff could have cared less, only when I got up to move an umbrella to attempt to block the sun did I get attention. Bottom line decent food, service bad. Not licking that salty rim again, ever. Should have known when we walked in and there were only 8 people there.

Amazing place. Easy to find. Good parking. Got seated right away. Have my favorite beer on tap. Live music on the patio. Chips and salsa (not on the menu, just ask) are amazing! We shared the fish tacos. Plenty of food and amazing gooeyness! Would recommend.
